Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift was born December 13, 1989, in Wyomissing, PA, although at 14 she moved to Nashville, TN to try to further her career. Her debut album was in 2006, and she is one of the most popular country stars today. Her style is regarded as country-pop and crosses both genres, similar to other country singer Shania Twain, who Swift says was her biggest influence. Taylor has won six Grammy awards, and 109 awards in total since the beginning of her career. She is very popular with both teenagers and adults alike, and was named Billboard Magazine’s Woman of the Year in 2011.

Swift primaraly plays an acoustic guitar in addition to being a singer-songwriter. Her most common guitars are a Taylor custom-made Presentation Series guitar, a Taylor T5 acoustic in bubblegum pink, and a Taylor 615 acoustic guitar. Her song structures are generally simplistic and she often uses a capo, which makes her music very accessible to a beginning guitar players.  

Swift is an alto-soprano with a vocal range generally placed side of the in a high register. Her voice has been described as “sweet and soft”. That said, wither an alto or a second soprano sould easily be able to replicate Swift’s vocals. Her songs are both easy to play and sing, maaking them a popular choice for many female guitar playing singer-songwriters.
